What is the Formula Student competition?
Started in 1981 at the University of Texas at Austin the Formula Student (or Formula SAE) is now an international student design competition. The goal for the Formula Student teams is to design and manufacture a single-seated formula-style car with which they can compete against other teams worldwide. Every team builds its racecar following certain Formula Student World Federation instructions.
The international design competition is not won solely by the team with the fastest car, but rather by the team with the best overall construction package, performance, and financial and sales planning package.
Formula Student competitions challenge every team member to go the extra step in their education by building and manufacturing a prototype car considering the economic aspects of the automotive industry. It is a unique opportunity for students to connect the theory gathered at school with real-world practice, meet with potential employers, and on top of that have an unforgettable experience.
The car should have good driving characteristics such as acceleration, braking, and handling. Additionally, the car should be dependable, comfortable, and of course, at a reasonable cost
The challenge is to compose a complete package consisting of a well-developed racecar and a sales plan that best matches these given criteria.
Experienced Formula Student officials are responsible for evaluating the overall performance of the teams in the competition, while the cars are tested on the track, demonstrating their performance in real-life conditions.
Why students are building Formula Student racecars?
Experience with project management, time, and teamwork along with design, construction, manufacturing, and of course, the economic aspects of automotive engineering improve the qualifications of young engineers.
“Formula Student Greece” promises to increase job placement opportunities and help young professionals take their careers one step further.
Every partner of the competition and every individual team member will be able to network with potential employees, and the employers will be able to gain detailed impressions of the competitors throughout the events.
